Aquatec Provision
Aquatec provision focuses on improving the quality, shelf-life, and market value of locally harvested fish in Mwanza, Tanzania, using eco-friendly technologies and modern processing methods. The business addresses critical challenges such as post-harvest losses, poor preservation, and health risks associated with traditional smoking methods. By introducing improved smoking kilns, proper storage, hygienic handling, and attractive packaging, we empower small-scale fish processors—especially women—to produce high-quality smoked fish that meets both local and urban market standards. We also integrate digital tools for traceability, market access, and training. Through mobile platforms and WhatsApp chatbots, we provide processors with continuous education on sustainable processing, food safety, and business skills. Our smoked fish products are sold in local markets and supplied to Dar es Salaam and other cities, tapping into growing demand for nutritious, ready-to-cook fish products. This innovation not only increases income for local fish processors but also promotes environmental conservation by reducing deforestation through improved smoked kilns which reduce emissions and deforestation by 60%.Ultimately, our business improves livelihoods, enhances food security, and supports gender equity by creating sustainable employment for women and youth in the fisheries value chain.
