Sheidy Foods is a cassava processing startup based in Tamale, operating under Sheidy Mart Enterprise. The company produces high-quality cassava-based products, including gari, cassava flour, tapioca, cassava dough, and animal feed from cassava peels. The startup addresses two key challenges in Northern Ghana: post-harvest losses among smallholder cassava farmers and limited value addition in the cassava value chain. A significant portion of locally harvested cassava goes to waste due to poor preservation and limited market access, while the region imports processed foods that could be produced locally. Sheidy Foods not only sources cassava from farmers but also farms its own cassava, ensuring a reliable supply. The venture trains women and youth in cassava processing and climate-smart agricultural practices, promoting skills development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods. It also contributes to food security by providing affordable, nutritious, and shelf-stable cassava products.
