Ishamba
Launched in March 2015, the iShamba service is a mobile-based farmer information service that disseminates relevant and timely agricultural information to farmers directly to their mobile phones. iShamba also has a call Center staffed with agricultural experts where farmers can SMS and/or call to get instant expert advice six days a week. Farmers sign up for the free iShamba service by sending the word JOIN to 21606. Once signed up, they receive agritips on two commodities of their choice, market prices, and weather updates. They are also able to SMS in their farming questions and receive a response within 24 hours. The service is currently available in Kenya and Uganda.
