Prof. Jerome Theo Afeikhena

He is a Senior Policy Specialist at the FAO Subregional Office of Eastern Africa. He has over 28 years of experience in international development and policy analysis. Prior to his current engagement, he served as Special Advisor to the African Union Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy, and Sustainable Environment for eight years. He was also Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, as well as the University of Botswana, Gaborone. He has held several distinguished positions including Visiting Scholar, International Monetary Fund, Washington D.C. (September - October 2000); Visiting Fellow, the Development Research Group, World Bank, Washington D.C. (October - December 2000); and Senior Associate Member, Saint Anthony’s College/ Centre for the Study of African Economies Fellow, Oxford University, Oxford, United Kingdom, Trinity Term 2006. He holds a PhD in Development Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. His core competencies are research, agribusiness, and evidence-based policy advice on governance, trade, investment, food security, and rural development in Africa. His mission is to contribute to the economic transformation of the continent through capacity building and the development of partnerships. He is also a Professor of Economics at Igbinedion University, Nigeria, where he mentors and inspires the next generation of African leaders and scholars.
