Effect of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) on Multidimensional Household Poverty in Burkina Faso: A Conditional Mixed Process Approach

This article analyzes the effects of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) on multidimensional poverty in Burkina Faso. It is based on primary data collected from 384 randomly selected households. A multidimensional poverty index was constructed as the dependent variable, and the Conditional Mixed Process (CMP) is used for the regression. The originality of this article lies in the fact that it conducts an analysis according to the links in the NWFP chain, and in the integration of multidimensional poverty to account for the importance of NTFPs in the fight against poverty on the other hand. The results show that the marketing, consumption and processing links reduce multidimensional household poverty. These results suggest the development of policies aimed at strengthening the links in the marketing, consumption and processing of NTFPs.
